| At Professional Pathology Services,
our cytology laboratory is a full service, free-standing lab with
emphasis on women's health—speed, accuracy, and up-to-the-minute
technology are its trademarks. Timeliness of diagnosis is of paramount
importance, and the laboratory is able to provide a less than 5-day
turnaround time for PAP test results.
Through the Palmetto Heatlh Hospitals, PPS,
PC processes more Pap tests and Non-GYN specimens annually than
any other lab in the area. The majority of these cervical cancer
screening tests utilize the new thin layer technology, Thin Prep,
which provides enhanced detection of precancerous lesions of the
uterine cervix. The laboratory also offers testing for the Human
Papillomavirus. The Non-Gyn practice of the cytology laboratory
offers many features and has a strong expertise in processing
fine needle aspirations.
The laboratory is fully accredited by the College of American
Pathologists and employs eight ASCP-certified cytotechnologists—all
of whom have senior-level status—and six fellowship-trained,
board certified cytopathologists.
