| At both Palmetto Health campuses, all
prostate biopsies are reviewed by two pathologists in order to improve
tumor detection and ensure concordance in Gleason
scoring. State of the art immunohistochemistry is available for
the performance of ancillary markers.
To keep abreast of the latest medical research, our pathologists
contribute to a monthly multidisciplinary conference on Prostate
disease, which is attended by urologists, radiation oncologists,
pathologists and medical oncologists from both campuses, academicians
from the school of medicine, and staff from the Palmetto Health
cancer registry. Additionally, our pathologists participate in
a "blind" reading of prostate biopsies from participants
in the National Prostate cancer prevention trial, which are correlated
with a central/national pathology review.
PPS, PC pathologists come from diverse backgrounds and have ample
experience and expertise in Genitourinary pathology. Intradepartmental
consultation is actively encouraged, drawing on the combined wealth
of our diverse backgrounds in pathology.
