see a broad spectrum of neuropathology conditions including craniotomies
for trauma, vascular conditions, and neoplasia. Stereotactic biopsies
(both MRI and CT guided) are also performed. Collectively, these
hospitals are staffed by nine to ten neurosurgeons. Tissue from
neurosurgical procedures is seen in consultation by a board certified
neuropathologist.
Our pathologists are available for consultations on a wide variety
of neurological disorders including neoplastic conditions, pediatric
diseases, degenerative diseases, including Alzheimer's and Prion-Spongioform
encephalopathies and vascular abnormalities. Muscle and nerve biopsy
analysis is offered through affiliated pathology institutions.
A number of ancillary diagnostic methodologies including histochemistry,
imunohistochemistry, electron microscopy, and molecular diagnostics
are available either through Palmetto Health Hospitals
or cooperative laboratories.
